Our work is inspired in part by photographer who pursued this with a film camera for the Mac app ' in the mid 1990s. While our efforts to create these new wallpapers encountered countless challenges over the years, we were constantly reminded that Todd completed a similar effort with a film camera decades before. With the tools and equipment available today we thought it would be easier. We found that even with best tools filming for 24 hours can be both a challenge and an amazing adventure. While filming for 24 Hour Wallpaper we used a range of amazing apps on iPhone and iPad to assist. Over time we ultimately needed to build our own sun tracking app to help us track the sun and remind us to tend to the camera.
While we built as an internal tool, we fell in love with it and ultimately had to make it public. He development of an artistic concept like this often takes interesting twists and turns. For a year this project deviated to create a fine art installation titled ' as an homage to Andy Warhol's 'Empire.' We produced a comprehensive exhibition exploring time, culture, and durational video. This was the first art installation ever to use an Apple TV.
